Anthony Kelly and David Stalling – Powerstation 3

Dublin based artists Anthony Kelly and David Stalling have been collaborating on a series of sound and visual pieces since 2003, which have been widely exhibited. They were recently commissioned by the Arts Council of Ireland to create the sound exhibition Urban Utopias. Some of their recent shows include Felt Experience Project, Catalyst Arts Centre, Belfast; Components, Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh; Binaural Audio Art Symposium, University of Lancashire, UK; Cead in China, and a screening at Anthology Film Archives, New York. Their recorded work has been released on the sound art label aphasiarecordings.com, on the recent Bend it like Beckett CD, and a track from their forthcoming ‘Treehouse’ EP was released on Wire Tapper 16 with the December 2006 issue of Wire magazine.

Future projects include participating in the sound art exhibition ‘Two Places’, which will be shown at the Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast and the University of Limerick in early 2008 and Visualise Carlow in 2009.

“Our work encompasses a shared practice of recycling objets trouveés of sonic material in our ongoing collaborative sessions. The results are a series of musique concrète miniatures made from binaural field recordings and old personal cassette tapes. As we work through the collected raw material, we often choose parts of the recordings that others would discard because of faults/artifacts, i.e. hiss, clips, or the interference of a mobile phone signal. The layering of these mistakes often becomes part of the fabric of the work itself.”
